Its good to have priorities...

"Armed Rangers Protect Butterflies in Mexico"

So while half their population streams illegally accross the border into the USA, and the other half lives in abject poverty, the Mexican government has seen fit to devote security resouces to... butterflies. And these are not even endangered butterflies. Just butterflies.

I guess at some point Mexico must have fixed all of it's other problems without the rest of us noticing, because that is the only thing I can think of which would justify a heavily armed security force to protect some non-endangered butterflies.

Somehow, I missed this story. It does seem strange that the Mexican government would send armed soldiers to protect butterflies on their borders. I think perhaps there is another reason for the action. Perhaps Mexico is trying to make a point here; given the long awaited change in America's border security policy and the steady move toward a more secure border, it's quite possible that Mexico is trying to send a message. Hopefully our countries will work well together but, if not, the Mexican government may find themselves with more on their hands than butterflies. We must secure our borders at any cost.

Amazing, but not surprizing. In the US we have heavily armed illegal gangs of brigands defending trees with spikes and semiautomatic weapons in the name of Earth First.

There's no shorteage of whacko's in the world.
